AGV Helmets History

1946 AGV (Amisano Gino) began as a manufacturer of leather seats and bicycle saddles in Valenza, Italy.

1948 AGV enters into the world of motorcycle helmets; an important step which gained, since the beginning, unprecedented commercial success together with the chance of being part of sport competitions.

1949 The first open-face helmet with a leather shell was developed and produced.

1953 The first fiberglass vulcanized helmets were introduced into the market.

1954 AGV produces the first 100% fiberglass open-face helmet. A few years later, by taking advantage of the experience acquired in creating a special helmet to run the flying start kilometer on skis, AGV develops the first fiberglass full-face helmet.

1977 AGV, which has always been investing to reach the highest safety standards, decides to commit itself to the Clinica Mobile project by sustaining all costs for the first structure.  The "Clinica Mobile" is a facility that provides emergency care to riders that have suffered injuries during races. This partnership is still alive today.

1985 Nelson Piquet takes part in the Formula 1 World Championship wearing a brand new Kevlar/Dupont fiberglass full-face AGV helmet.
Since the beginning AGV's history has been directly linked to many of riders who have made motorcycle history: Giacomo Agostini, Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts, Johnny Cecotto, Angel Nieto, Marco Lucchinelli, Franco Uncini, Fausto Gresini, Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, Randy Mamola, and Luca Cadalora. These co-operations have brought many victories to AGV and over 130 World Championship Titles, in addition to the definitive establishment of the AGV brand name on a global scale.

1988 AGV completes its range of products with the acquisition of MDS, a brand that in the very short time emerged by virtue of its versatility and gained important World Titles in off-road championships with talented riders such as Pekka Vehkonen and Dave Thorpe.

1995 Valentino Rossi starts his outstanding professional career wearing an AGV helmet. Together with AGV Valentino began his dominant reign which has won 7 World Championships Titles.

2002 AGV becomes part of an important Belgian Multi-national Group which already owned the LAZER brand. The IMAG Group together with AGV, MDS, and LAZER is now the 4th worldwide producer within the sport helmets market.

AGV helmet company is a family owned, Italian business. Recent AGV motorcycle helmet sponsored rider championships include Superbike World Championships won by Troy Corser, those won by Max Biaggi and Manuel Poggiali in the World Championships of the 250 and 125 classes respectively. A chapter on its own must be dedicated to the relationship that unites AGV Helmet to the one rider that history has declared to be the best rider of all times: Valentino Rossi. Vale started his amazing career wearing an AGV Helmet. He won all six of his World Titles and with an AGV Rossi helmet he faced a new exciting challenge while winning his fourth (2004) and fifth (2005) MotoGP titles on board the Yamaha YZR-M1 machine. AGV motorcycle helmets ship with clear visors - optional tinted visors are available as an added option.

The top of the line AGV motorcycle helmet is the Ti Tech. The Ti Tech is a race ready motorcycle helmet that offers light weight performance with an engineered composite shell and an EPS internal counter shell for maximum safety. Ti Tech means that there is a integrated ventilation system (IVS) that sets pure titanium in channels hollowed directly into the helmet shell providing strong reinforcements and maximum air flow ventilation. The 2007 AGV Stealth helmet uses SSL construction carbon Kevlar fiber stratification and core system technology for strength and light weight construction. The AGV XR 2 helmet uses the same shell construction combined with X-vent ventilation and extractors to supply fresh, cooling air inside the helmet. All AGV motorcycle helmets use the Coolmax removable, washable interior.

The AGV motorcycle helmet is an Italian brand. This means that it does not fit like your Japanese and Korean brands. The Italian philosophy is to make every helmet a full-blown race helmet without much consideration for the average street motorcycle rider. The padding of an AGV helmet is extra thick and snug while the shell is small and compact to minimize weight and maximize aerodynamics. A well fit Italian made helmet will feel like it is too small compared to other brands because it will fit very snug and the part of the helmet that comes across your chin will likely be touching your face. The advantage of this snug fit is that the helmet never buffets in the wind stream at very high speeds exceeding 120 mph. When you turn your head at high speeds, the helmet stays in position and turns with you giving you instant visualization of the next turn when you are riding fast. We recommend you try on an AGV helmet if possible before you purchase one online or try on another Italian brand such as Suomy to get the sizing correct. Most riders that are used to wearing street brands end up with a size larger in the AGV helmet to get the same fit as a street brand.

The performance of an AGV helmet is best felt at high speed. If you ride fast, you need to consider an AGV helmet. The snug fit is great when you are in a high speed wind stream because the interference from the wind is minimal. Each AGV helmet is manufactured as an A helmet meaning it is the same helmet that an AGV sponsored racer would wear. Valentino Rossi wears an out of the box AGV helmet with the only modification being that Vale covers the titanium plates on top with tape to prevent them from flashing in other racer's eyes and he has specially made cheek pads that custom fit his face. The air flow ventilation is average at slow speeds and excellent when riding fast.

The return rate for the AGV helmet is above average because most people that purchase one buy the same size AGV helmet that they would buy a Japanese brand. Their first impression is that the helmet is too small but the Italians would tell you it fits properly. Most returns of AGV helmets are for a larger size. We have almost no returns for warranty repair or replacement. AGV helmet company prefers that any warranty issues be handled directly with them and not through the retail outlet where you purchased the helmet.

Purchase the AGV helmet if you ride a high performance sportbike and like to ride fast. These helmets, following the Italian philosophy of design, offer great performance at high speeds. You have to get used to the snug fit if you haven't worn an Italian brand in the past. The average street rider might find the AGV helmet a little too snug and not as comfortable as a lesser performing helmet that is designed for the street. Sizing is tricky for AGV helmets so be sure to study this sizing chart BEFORE you purchase. Notice that there are two sizings for the TiTech helmet. The 'Easy Fit' is a looser fit for street riding and the 'Race Fit' is very snug for high impact accidents:
